Largy College Girls Accepted into STEM Passport Program
In early 2024, Largy College proudly announced that a group of our female students had been accepted into the prestigious STEM Passport program, a collaborative initiative between Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and Maynooth University. This program was specifically designed to provide an enriching experience in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), encouraging more females to pursue careers in these areas.
Program Highlights
The STEM Passport program offered hands-on activities, interactive workshops, and expert mentorship, allowing students to explore and develop their skills in critical STEM fields. Participation in this program was a significant achievement and a testament to the students' hard work, dedication, and passion for learning. Students who completed this module received a Level 6 (NFQ) in 21st Century STEM Skills.
DreamSpace Sessions
Our students attended W5’s DreamSpace in Belfast on three separate occasions:
- Tuesday, September 10th
- Tuesday, October 8th
- Tuesday, November 5th
These full-day sessions provided an immersive experience, helping students gain confidence and competence in STEM subjects. The program also included support for transportation and lunch costs, ensuring that all students could fully participate without financial barriers.
National Initiative
The STEM Passport for Inclusion program was a national initiative aimed at breaking barriers and providing girls in Transition Year with the opportunity to participate in a university-accredited qualification in STEM. This initiative was supported by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), Microsoft, and Optum, and aimed to improve the number of women in STEM courses across Ireland.
Gratitude and Future Success
We are confident that this experience was both rewarding and inspiring, paving the way for future academic and career success for our students. We extend our gratitude to the teachers, parents, and ATU staff for their support and dedication to making this opportunity possible.
