Subject Overview
Arts, Craft and Design are the three interdependent disciplines. Each involves a different way of analysing and thinking.
- • Art emphasises ideas, feeling and the visual qualities and responses
- • Craft emphasises the correct use of tools, skills and materials
- • Design emphasises planning, problem solving and completion, using drawing as a means of thinking
The benefits of an education in Art, Craft and Design for the students here in Largy College, extend far beyond a competence in the subject itself, it develops a number of important personal qualities, particularly those of initiative, preservice, sensibility and self-reliance. Visual Art at Junior Cycle aims to provide the students with a et of personal attitudes and qualities as well as skills and processes and a sense of aesthetic. Leaving Certificate art is studied across Art History and appreciation, still life, imaginative composition, design and craftwork. Art in Largy College aims to develop in students the knowledge, skills, understanding and values needed to bring an idea to realisations and to respond to, understand, analyse and evaluate their own work and the work of others in a happy, positive environment
