Home School Liaison
The H.S.C.L. scheme was set up in Largy College in 2000. The aim of the scheme is to promote partnership between home, school and the community to ensure that every child participates fully in the school system. It fosters a sense of trust between the students, parents and the school. The Scheme coordinator is Mr Seamus Roche. He is available to discuss on a personal level matters of concern to parents. If preferred he can make visits to the home.
The role of the Chaplain is to help create an environment within the school where the student’s spiritual and emotional well-being is cared for. By its very nature chaplaincy reflects Christian values and the Chaplain is a faith presence within the school.
It is vital that the Chaplain is someone whom the students trust. The Chaplain is friend to the students. He makes himself available to the school community. The Chaplain’s role is multidenominational.
The College has an overall guidance plan that involves every student at every stage his/her progress through the College and afterwards. Ms. Boyce is the Career Guidance Teacher and co-ordinator of the guidance team. As well as delivering formal career guidance classes and conducting aptitude tests Ms Boyce is available for one to one consultation with both students and parents.
Largy College has a very forward thinking learning support department. We cater for students with specific learning difficulties and those who may find difficulty in some or all subjects. Through regular testing (entrance tests, class tests, end of year tests) we identify those students who will benefit from extra support and provide tuition in small groups or one to one situations. This support is in the form of alternative teaching strategies that allow students to learn in their own style (visually, kinaesthetially and aurally).
